On Thursday, June 28th, the Finals & Awards Ceremony was held at the NCSR “Demokritos”, and the MITEF Greece Startup Competition 2018 concluded with the selection of 3 winners as follows:
1st Prize – AJM Med-i-caps
2nd Prize – Innate Repair and
3rd Prize – Augmenta (previously Agile Agriculture Technologies).
The MITEF Greece Startup Competition, is a business acceleration program that aims to identify promising Greek technology startups, and accelerate them to the global market.
Sylipsis President Michael Balitsaris Fortier, a veteran MITEF competition mentor and judge, was the primary mentor for AJM Med-i-caps.
AJM Med-i-caps offers an easy, safe, small and large bowel screening method of high accuracy. The company has designed and manufactured a product that consists of a screening capsule and an administered diagnostic. Their combination can revolutionise the way men and women are screened for colorectal cancer and polyps.
Michael’s top executive background in med technology, health care financing and health care systems in the US, helped him guide the group. Michael has served as MIT Enterprise Forum competition judge, mentor, and member since shifting residence to Athens, Greece in 2015. He has mentored MITEF startup competitors in the Medical technology, Sports tech, Agricultural Tech, and Life Sciences sectors and also collaborated as a mentor with the ALBA Graduate Business School in Athens and the Venture Garden Entrepreneurship Program.
The experience of Mr. Balitsaris-Fortier spans over two decades of work with health insurers and hospital systems and as an entrepreneur over the last 18 years. His professional background is in the private sector health care market, strategic planning and business development, legislative and advocacy management, start-up technology ventures in health care, and commercial projects in the international market. Michael Balitsaris-Fortier is a dual citizen of the US and Greece.
